Dear smart,
Since I got my smart fortwo Passion in July 2008, I’ve been impressed with its quality. Last month, I also became impressed with my car’s safety and my local dealer’s service.
In early March, I was stopped at a traffic signal in my blue and silver 2008 passion coupe during a light snowstorm. Behind me, a large delivery truck was unable to stop on the icy road. In my rear-view mirror I saw the truck skidding towards me, and watched knowing I could not prevent the collision.
After the sudden and inevitable thud, I checked to make sure I was unhurt, and checked on the other driver. My next thought was for my car. I was sure my new, barely 9 month old car, was seriously damaged. The sinking feeling after any car accident is horrible, and only gets worse when the car is new.
After getting my smart and the truck to a safe parking lot, I surveyed the damage, and was surprised the damage was so limited to the rear bumper and tailgate. The car still drove smoothly, the engine was protected, none of the glass or tail lights cracked, the doors were fine, and the passenger area was perfect. I was surprised and thrilled that even after being hit by a truck probably five times the weight of my car, my little smart was, essentially, fine.
I worked with the other driver’s insurance and my local smart Center to get an estimate and start repairs. BJ, the Service Manager at smart Center Seattle was extremely responsive and answered all my questions. He was great about explaining the damage and the repair plan. He worked diligently with the insurance company to build a detailed repair list and get the work started right away. My smart is still in the shop, but should be back next week. I have every hope that it will be repaired as-good-as-new, and be ready for more fun and safe driving for a long time to come.
