Carl's story
Dear smart USA: Luckily I have no crash story to tell you, but I do have one of crash avoidance. It was a rainy day and I was driving with my wife in downtown SF. I was behind a taxi and we were going downhill towards an intersection at about 30mph, when a lady with an umbrella stepped onto the crosswalk, causing the taxi to slam on his breaks. While the taxi rapidly decelerated, I was sure the wet pavement was going to cause us to rear-end him, but somehow the ABS seemed to defy the laws of physics in slowing us down on the slick wet road. The lady laughed, the taxi driver made various hand gestures, and we were safely on our way! After studying up on ABS and ESP, I now feel even more confident when I'm in my smart fortwo, as well as in my wife's.
